Hey, I’m Sophia.
Welcome to my little corner of the internet—where spreadsheets, chaos, and occasional hot takes meet.
My story starts on a trading floor in Asia, eyes glued to the screen as Lehman Brothers collapsed in real time. Not exactly the fairy tale beginning, but definitely unforgettable. I was a first-gen college grad from Taiwan—first in my family to live, study, and work overseas—and I had made it to the global business scene. What should’ve been terrifying turned out to be formative. That moment taught me: uncertainty isn’t the enemy—it’s where opportunity lives.
Since then, I’ve built a career (and life) around that idea.
I’ve worked and lived across six countries on four continents—Taiwan, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, and now the U.S.—and spent almost 20 years in strategic finance, startup operations, and investments. I’ve scaled revenue 5x, optimized pricing and cost structures, and closed four strategic acquisitions in six months at a public company. I’ve also shipped scrappy MVPs, gutted underperforming systems, and figured out how to build when the manual didn’t exist (because it usually didn’t).
Today, I’m a Partner at Dots Studio, a venture studio that turns ideas into impactful businesses, and the Founder of Esquare Lab, an investment company where we acquire and operate small businesses—including COZi, a flexible rental and hospitality business I bootstrapped from scratch. COZi now manages 40+ rooms and delivers 2-3x return than the market average, even in the middle of a pandemic.
Areas where I roll up my sleeves:
- – Business strategy & growth planning
- – Real estate investing and financial modeling
- – M&A and partnerships
- – Turning chaos into structure
Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of speaking at the Harvard Business School Finance Conference, judging at the MIT 100K, and serving as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at UMass. I was also named one of Girls in Tech Taiwan 40 Under 40, which made my mom very proud.
When I’m not building or analyzing something, I’m probably on a plane chasing new cultures. Travel has been my way of expanding perspective—it helps me see problems (and opportunities) from different angles, and reminds me to build businesses with empathy for people whose needs and norms may look very different from my own.
If anything here resonates—or you just want to swap stories, deals, or ideas—drop me a line at me [at] sophia [dot] technology.
Let’s build something real.
